Community Outreach Music Program

We are proud to announce the second year of the Hurricane Cadets summer music program for youth ages 12 yrs old to 18 yrs old. Being offered are private lessons which are free to the community youth that are willing to work. The program is under the governance of the Connecticut Hurricanes Board of Directors and its policy's. As of now we are joined by several valley schools as well as the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and the Valley YMCA. Some of the schools have a credit program as part of their community service.

The program provides musical arts education to all members through their participation in performance on wind and percussion instruments. The Hurricanes' program places emphasis on a variety of musical styles, which give the membership the opportunity to correlate a sense of rhythm with physical coordination. The activity enables the participants to display their learned musical skills in entertainment at sports offerings, concerts, and other civic affairs. The disciplines of music are displayed through conduct, teamwork, and self control.

The program is geared towards students and members who want to refine their skills or for those who do not know how to perform on a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument are more then welcome. We have future plans for a competition winter guard and winter percussion program.

The Cadets are currently scheduled for Memorial Day parades, summer concerts and assessing members who are interested in moving to the competitive Connecticut Hurricanes all age Drum and Bugle Corps.
